TIM Volunteers to Help Tornado Victims

LOCAL BUSINESS GIVES BACK TO CUSTOMERS AFFECTED BY TORNADO

Many businesses, civic organizations, and churches have reached out in various ways to support those affected by the recent tornados. Donating financial resources, goods, and time have been, and will continue to be, crucial for recovery. One local physical therapy business took an active helping approach last Saturday, May 28th. Therapy In Motion assembled a service team of 25 volunteers to help clean up the aftermath of rubble, limbs, and debris at multiple residences in the Newcastle downtown area. “We knew we not only had a social responsibility be a physical help to those affected by the storms, but we also had a sincere desire to give back to our community. This is especially true for our patients who have previously suffered physical injuries, making it more difficult to clear their own properties and gather their belongings.” said, Scott Boyles, Doctor of Physical Therapy and Clinical Director of Therapy In Motion.

After checking in at the shelter as official volunteers, Therapy In Motion volunteered at the residence of Alice and Troy Shinn, located on N. Melinda Ave. The Shinn residence suffered significant damage to the patio, roof, brick siding, among other things. Sadly, the mahogany kitchen cabinets and drawers (hand built by Troy) were filled with water. Their residence will likely need to be demolished.

The team moved bricks, lumber, shingles and debris clearing the property and bringing everything to the curb for pickup. Co-owner and physical therapist, Dick Stewart, adds, “During their time of treatment, many patients become like close family members. If one of your family members experiences a tragedy, you cannot help but try to meet their immediate needs, and that’s what we did.”

The local clinic went on to assist several other residences Saturday, knocking on doors to check on the needs of customers and their neighbors. Armed with loads of work gloves, shovels, tools, trash bags, bottled water, and a giving spirit, this business along with many others, demonstrated loyalty to their paitents and to the community at large.

The Therapy In Motion clinic is located at 2340 NW 32nd at Rockwell & HWY 37. For more information about Therapy In Motion visit www.TherapyInMotion.net.
